Sustainable Artisanal Mining Applied for Livelihoods Advancement (SAMALA) for Women and Youth
SAMALA for Improved livelihoods of men, women and youth through sustainable artisanal or small-scale mining (ASM)
CEPA is implementing the Sustainable Artisanal Mining Applied for Livelihood Advancement (SAMALA) for Women and Youth project with funding from IM Swedish Development Partner. The project targets men, women and youth Artisanal or Small-scale Miners (ASMs) and their surrounding communities. It is being implemented over a period of four (4) years from 2020 to 2023 at a total budget of MK259, 520, 496.
The project is being implemented in the 2 districts of:
- Chikwawa – Chavilakale village, TA Ngabu (Salt Mining)
- Balaka/Neno – Chitimbe village, TA Phalula; Manondo and Chisimbwiti villages, TA Symon (Gold Mining)
The project aims to achieve the following outcomes:
- Artisanal small-scale miners organized for responsible production, processing and marketing of mineral resources
- Enhanced capacity of women and youth in responsible ASM operations
- Increased access to reliable markets
- Increased knowledge of women and youth in the ASM regulatory framework.
